It’s mostly a matter of opinion. Here’s this mod’s: It’s a well-put-together system that doesn’t quite feel like D&D to those of us who’ve played a long time. There was definitely a lot of “they changed it, now it sucks” going on from us grognards, coupled with the early flaws that any new system has on release… and to me, it just doesn’t feel like D&D the way 3.5 and 2E did to me. But that’s one opinion, and it’s no more valid than yours.
If you’re having fun with 4E, ignore the haters and play what you want to play. You might also give 5E a try, or try Pathfinder for free through its SRD. But the bottom line is, if you’re having fun, don’t let anyone tell you to stop having fun because you like a game system they don’t. Not even us.
Reblogged for truth.
I felt pretty much the same. 4th wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t what I thought of as D&D. I did have some great times playing it, though.
Looking forward to trying out 5th.
